What happens to NYC Residential Trash?

Every day 12 000 tons of residential trash, the equivalent of the weight of 53 statues of Liberty, leaves the city .

The vast majority of it goes to outer states.

To be buried.

Releasing Greenhouse Gases .

The last small portion of it is burned with toxic afterlife.

If more and more municipalities at least reuse landfill leachate and incinerator ashes for energy, the Environmental Protection Agency still consider it the last option that should be used after reducing and composting to fight climate change .
